Victorian & Edwardian tile restoration
- Our approach
Repair first, replace when needed
Most floors need only a handful of broken tiles swapped out. Where an area has failed more seriously, we lift it, put right the base beneath and re-lay it, extending the floor into a new area where that makes sense.
Plain geometric pieces are matched from reclaimed and new stock. Patterned encaustic tiles can be rare, so we look to salvage sources first and have missing designs made to order if necessary.
A restoration can include
- Survey, assessment and design advice
- Repairing the base beneath the tiles
- Matching colour and size
- Replacing damaged tiles
- Cleaning and sealing the finished floor
- Clean & seal
A finish that protects
A restored floor ends with a deep clean. Machine buffing with water lifts years of grime and any old oil or wax sealer from the tile surface.
Once the floor has dried, we apply a breathable, low-VOC protective sealer. It keeps the natural colour, guards against spills and suits both indoor and outdoor floors.
